Newspaper Prediction

Remember to use the videos to see the trick being performed an then to learn how to perform it. Below you will find and outline of the trick and the story that can be used to perform it. (You do not have to use this story. You can always make up your own story to suit your personality.)

The magician writes a line from a column of a newspaper onto a sheet of paper. This he folds up and places onto his table. He then takes a column from a newspaper and runs a pair of scissors up and down the sheet. A spectator shouts out the word STOP. At this point the magician cuts the paper and the top line of the text corresponds with the prediction on the folded sheet of paper.

Newspaper Prediction Story

I have cut out an article from a local newspaper, and having scanned through it I have selected just one line which I have written on this piece of paper (show the folded prediction.)

What I am going to do is to try and influence you to see if you can tell me where to cut this piece of paper to match my prediction. (Run the scissors up and down the sheet of paper.)

Ask a spectator to say the word STOP (when they say STOP cut the paper, pick up the piece that drops to the table.)

Show the top line and open the prediction to show that they match.
